Research Scientist for Microbial Mode of Action Investigation

PAUSE: We are looking for a (soil) microbiologist to join the Mode of Action team in the Plant Health R&D as a research scientist. The team is based in north sealand, Denmark.

Our mission is to develop biological products and provide innovative solutions to growers for improving plant productivity, soil health, and sustainability.  To achieve this, our team investigates modes of action of biological products and demonstrate the mechanism by which the biological product enhances plant growth, reduces diseases and infestations, and improves the soil health. We work in a multi-national and multi-disciplinary environment,  generate scientific evidence, and support the whole value chain from discovery, development, registration, to commercialization. Creating partnership with academia and industry is another important task of the team.

We are looking for a scientist who has solid experiences in conducting research within microbial physiology, microbial metabolisms, and/or microbial ecology and will drive the discovery and characterization of microbial MoA.

The successful candidate will:

  • Test, develop, and implement relevant methods for the investigation of microbial MoA characteristics (e.g., quantitative biochemical assays for enzymes and metabolism, q(RT)PCR for colonization and in-situ gene expression, fluorescence in situ hybridization).
  • Design experiments and investigate microbial characteristics (differentiation/development, primary metabolism, secondary metabolite, and enzyme production) that are relevant for MoA both under laboratory conditions and agriculturally relevant conditions (e.g., soil and rhizosphere).
  • Characterize soil microbiome activities and populations.
  • Generate scientific evidence, author reports, and communicate the results to the stakeholders through presentations.
  • Collaborate closely with plant physiologist, genome data scientist, and other R&D colleagues locally and globally, and support the establishment of scientific networks within the organization.
  • Manage stakeholders, understands gaps and needs, and propose solutions.
  • Support the development of external collaboration and partnerships with third parties and academia.
  • Support and enhance a team culture that values inquiry, accountability, quality, and care for each other

Education and competences:

  • PhD degree in soil microbiology, microbial ecology, microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology.
  • Quantitative and qualitative analyses of microbial metabolism, development/differentiation (e.g., sporulation, spore germination) and/or MoA features such as root colonization, biofilm, enzymes, and secondary metabolites.
  • Experiences in statistics and bioinformatics are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Agile, curious, and accountable. Initiative-taking, independent and constructive.
  • Experiences in handling bacillus species are preferred but not a requirement.

For this position you must be fluent in English, both writing and oral communications.

This i a temporary job starting as soon as possible and until the end of 2023 – with the possibility of permanent employment.
